Our pocket door lock range for bathrooms
The bathroom or toilet are the rooms in the house where privacy is essential and where you may need to consider internal security. This is purely for privacy reasons rather than safety and security, but it is common to have a locking mechanism of some sort installed, and the pocket door is suitable for incorporating this kind of feature. So, whether you have a bathroom with a toilet, a separate bathroom and toilet, or an en-suite bathroom, a simple locking device will be required.
When considering a locking mechanism for your pocket door, of course you want the system you choose to be simple, effective and reliable. But you also want this accessory to fit in with your interior décor scheme. When you consider the number of door handles which face outwards onto a landing, for example, or downstairs hallway, this can be a considerable number, and which therefore have a significant visual impact. On the first floor this could be as many as three bedrooms, plus a bathroom and maybe a toilet also. So it is important that you consider colour schemes and a consistency of style and design, so that the outward appearance of the space is appealing, and our range of pocket door locks for bathrooms can provide this.
How our pocket door locks work
Our range of pocket door locks for bathrooms are designed and manufactured by popular and successful brands, such as Essential, Eclisse, Karcher and Cassiopeia. Therefore you can expect a high quality of materials and workmanship, but there is also a consistency in design quality in how these features work.
Most bathroom door locks are a two-piece system. This involves an internal thumb turn and an external finger pull. So the internal mechanism enables a person to lock and unlock the door from the inside, while the external mechanism enables you to open and close the door. There is usually an emergency external opening feature also, which allows a person to unlock the door from the outside, should there have been an accident inside the bathroom, or perhaps if a young child has locked the door but is unable to then unlock it. This emergency opening feature is usually a simple slot design which can be unlocked using a slotted screwdriver.
Different finishes available for our pocket door locks for bathrooms
We talked earlier about the importance of how your door lock is finished, and how it matches with other internal items such as other door handles, light switches, sockets and light fittings. At the Pocket Door Shop we are able to supply a range of finishes which enable you to match these other items as closely as possible.
This range of finishes includes satin chrome, polished chrome, black painted, antique brass and polished brass for our Essential and Eclisse lock sets. For our Karcher stainless steel range you can choose from satin stainless steel, polished stainless steel, cosmos black, oil rubbed bronze and polished brass. And finally for our Cassiopeia round locking mechanism, this comes in a sleek and attractive matt white finish.
Our designs for your bathroom door locks
Most of these locking mechanisms are a simple round design and are available for door thicknesses of both 35mm and 45mm. The finger pull is designed for you to grab the pocket door with your fingers to open and close it, and for this reason it is advised that the installation of the pocket door is regulated so that it doesn’t 100% disappear into the ‘pocket’. If this happens it can be difficult to grab hold of the finger pull, and this could result in damage or the fingers being injured in the small wall cavity.
We do also supply an oblong-shaped door locking mechanism, which is a larger and more bold design which will suit some interior design schemes.

The pocket door has a range of benefits around the home, and is ideal for en-suite bathrooms where space is limited, and also for downstairs toilets which have been created to maximise available space and will effectively only work if a pocket door is installed. However, even if you have a dedicated bathroom upstairs and a separate toilet, these are often small spaces where you have to be creative in terms of utilising practical space. The pocket door is the ideal solution for this issue and hence you need a privacy locking system to be installed alongside it.
